In the mid-19th century the art collector Gian Giacomo Poldi Pezzoli decided to create a house-museum where he could exhibit his own collections (paintings, sculptures, arms and armour, glass, clocks, ceramics, textiles, furniture and jewellery).
Gian Giacomo’s first passion were antique arms and armour, then he began collecting artworks and paintings by great masters as Mantegna, Botticelli and Piero Della Francesca, to mention only a few.
The museum was partially destroyed during 1943 bombings, but was afterwards reconstructed. The beautiful Armoury was designed by sculpture Arnaldo Pomodoro in 2000. The antique staircase leading to the first floor and the little Dante Studio will amaze you!.
